Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

20 Aug 2023Dangerous bit of road at Kilcot, near Newent. it needs a re-route across the fields from Newent towards Kilcot Woods. This will need checking though. Overall the whole route is interesting, through small fields, woodland with quirky architecture. The Community cafe at Gorsley worth a stop.

20 Aug 2023A great route that could do with a few little tweaks, as mentioned by the first reviewer. More detailed review with pics coming soon.

22 Jun 2023Walked this slow way in reverse effectively - from Newent to Ross-on-Wye. A very pleasant walk in general, with some lovely scenery. The way was good in most parts with a couple of caveats:
In Kilcot I took a small diversion up Kilcot Lane, as the main road is very fast moving with only a slim verge. Doesn't add a lot to the distance, but a lot safer.
When popping out of Kilcot lane at the top of the hill, you are looking for the furthest left of three footpath markers - you can see two from the end of the lane, but there is one further down the hill on the left - this is the path to follow (runs parallel with the road downhill for a while).
There is a section where you pass through someone's garden between Kilcot and Gorsley (on Mill Lane). The footpath is clear here, but very narrow - persevere.
The path up the front of Linton Hall was very overgrown at the bottom - I only knew it was there as I had walked it before.
The footpath that runs from Linton to Fording Farm is not obvious - there is a footpath sign, but it just seems to go into someone's garden - I took a detour on the road round rather than find myself trespassing! Again, nice quiet road, so not a major issue to go that way.
Can thoroughly recommend the Orchard Coffee house at Gorsley and the Alma at Linton for refreshment stops - great coffee and beer respectively.
I think you need to be confident in your map-reading skills at various points, as waymarking is a bit hit and miss.

15 Oct 2023Hey DBSevern! I made a version two of this which goes around the back of Kilcot to avoid the A-road. If that was your suggestion perhaps you could review it? :)
