11 Sep 2023Walked Rochford to Southend for a double check.
I agree with previous reviewer: the footpath along the border of Rochford/Southend, by Temple farm, is completely overgrown. The signage is mostly visible, but the path is now obliterated by waist high nettle, thistle, shrub and tree.
Further north, the bridle path which runs alongside the industrial estate between the river Roche and Tinkers Lane is just clear enough for a baby shetland to pass, but it’s really still crowded by foliage, and we were put off by a possible sighting of giant hogweed, so turned back. Soon after we met a dog walker who said her father had been stung by hogweed down that path.
After the footpath adventures we stayed east of the railway line rather than crossing at Eastern Avenue; this is because I don’t think the route as drawn has access to a path alongside the railway on the west side at Prittlewell.
With footpath clearance and a small tweak to stay to the east of the railway (and also to walk along the river Roche directly from the station at Rochford), this would be a decent route, but as it stands it’s not viable.

28 Jul 2021Footpaths are awful, overgrown, not cleared through farmers fields and large dips and curbs, narrow access making it impossible for wheels.
Route is incorrect in two places, trying to use private roads or non existent footpaths.
