Description
This route follows the NCR 1, the cinder track, from Robin Hood's Bay to Cloughton.
It's an easy footpath, but would be interesting for wheeled devices as its rather bumpy in places.
It's a very similar route to Robclo two but it stays on the Cinder Track until Station Lane

21 Jul 2022Join the Cinder Track from the Old Station in Robin Hood’s Bay. The track starts gently and then its a long climb up to Ravenscar. The old track bed varies from smooth to rather corrugated. After the road crossing to Boggle Hole, the track has some very large potholes. Take extreme care if riding a bike. There are fantastic views of the coast and do not forget to look back, you will not be disappointed! Just before you get to Old Brick Works on the western side of track there is a very steep incline in excess of 1 in 2 (28 degrees). It is short but the surface is shaley. There is final section
of the long climb up to The Ravenscar Plateau. At the top there is a National Trust Centre with refreshments. Just along the road from the Centre are public toilets with a disabled toilet which requires a RADAR key. The main toilets are open 7AM til 7PM.
As you cross the Ravenscar plateau on the roads, there is a cafe serving refreshments and meals including Vegan.
You restart the Cinder Track and continue southwards past the WW2 radar Station on the cliff top. The down hill track has traces of the old sleeper bed which makes the track uneven and keeps the speed down, along with the regular gates. As you pass Hayburn Wyke with the Hotel to the east, you are following the footprints of Jurassic Dinosaurs. The Cinder Track continues downhill towards the village of Cloughton. The turn onto to the road to the village can be easily missed. The access track up to road is very narrow and occurs before the bridge. There are steps up to the road just after the bridge. Cloughton has village facilities with bus services to Scarborough or Whitby.

18 Jul 2022Easy to follow, signposted Cleveland Way national trail. Deceptive slow incline along cinder track up from Robin Hoods Bay to Ravenscar. Both have excellent tea shops and lots of history. More varied route than from Whitby as you're slightly inland and get more shelter than walking along cliff. High tide comes right up to cliff base - you have been warned!
Plenty of pubs and accom in RHB. Other than that you'd need to camp or journey through to Scarborough.
Excellent bus service Saltburn all the way through to Scarborough, via Skinningrove, Staithes, Sandsend, Whitby, and RHB for exploration, lazy days and rainy days.

01 Oct 2021A pleasant route that is easy and safe, with a few gates on route.
It's an old railway track so it doesn't have any really steep parts but it isn't flat and it is rough in places.
It's popular with walkers, dog walker and cyclists but its a good track and I had no problems.
