10 Sep 2021This is a very pleasant walk. The following points are relevant:
1. A path exists from Burgess Bridge (the bridge over the River Nidd) to Scotton Grove and this shortens the route slightly
2. A path skirts just North of Burton Leonard offering an alternative through walking through the village. It is marginally shorter.
3. The path is now officially diverted to go round Ashbrook Farm (North of Bishop Monkton). It is a minor diversion and is well signed
4. A section of the path between Ashbrook Farm and the Ripon Canal has also been diverted. The diversion takes it away from a new farm building and adds a short distance to the walk. The diversion is very well signposted and the original route has been blocked off
5. There are several routes through Ripon but the one that sticks to the canal until reaching the basin is more pleasant than the one marked.
The route crosses a mixture arable farmland and fields with livestock. There are alternative routes to avoid walking through fields of cows at two points on the route but the stiles along parts of it may defeat some dogs.

08 Jun 2021A great route following the canal out of Ripon then fields, tracks and paths. Four stars as not fully accessible due to stiles and uneven ground in places.
Some skittish cows in a field South of Brearton, path alternative available.
A couple of local path diversions from the route. However, these were easy to follow.

05 Jun 2021A lovely walk starting by the Ripon Canal and towards the end the Nidd Gorge. The walk is unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchair as there are a few stiles.
I had a problem with lovely cows in a field at Brearton, but this can be avoided by turning right instead of left at Brearton and taking the footpath on your left. This joins the other footpath after a few fields.
