Report

Direct, easy to access and easy to follow. This an excellent Slow Way. I started the walk on a fresh clear Saturday morning with the sun behind the hills and a view to the snow capped peaks inland. Seabirds abound and the views out to sea and along the coast make for a great background. I wore boots but could have won shoes, the route is nearly all tarmac or sand. The transition away from the sea front into Rhyl doesn't work as it is marked, but as with other reviewers, any workaround is simple and at no major time cost so I wouldn't fail it. Trains and buses to either end, numerous access points along. Full marks.

I walked this route, starting from Rhyl, after a 90-minute train delay caused by Storm Floris, which meant that the strong winds along the sea-front were pushing me along! I had checked the wind direction and the tides before setting off so I knew it should be safe, but it was still fun! There was quite a lot of sand blowing along the prom to start with.
The plotting at the Rhyl end was a bit vague, but it was easy enough to follow I suppose. You do need to go to the south of the roundabout though, then up some stairs or a zigzag slope, then go over the pedestrian overpass. There was a tiny bit of prom access still blocked, but it was signposted, and I reached the sea pretty soon. The waves in the distance looked impressive. I was glad I had made sure they would be in the distance!
There were many points along the way where it was possible to access the beach from the hard-surfaced prom, or to access the towns and holiday parks inland. There were also benches at various points. There were good views in all directions.
The turn into Prestatyn was again slightly inaccurately plotted, and could be done via slopes or a few steps. It was also the start of the Offa’s Dyke footpath.
A very easy, enjoyable walk.

This route looks excellent on paper, and probably was when the three previous reviewers walked it, but since then three separate flood barrier schemes have closed sections of the coast path/cycle track. The most serious is the closure of the entire section between the edge of Rhyl and the edge of Prestatyn. I have created RHYPRE 2 to reflect the current situation, but very much hope that this route will eventually be useable again.

Nice seaside walk along the prom, nothing too taxing.
Prestatyn and Rhyl stations both have disabled access.
Cycle and pedestrian paths all along the promenade.

Lovely easy walk along the sea front. Flat, concrete promanade the whole way, lots of benches along the way with easy access to parking, coffee and toilets.
