Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

13 Aug 2021The approach to East Markham just past Meadow Cottage suggest going off road on the left to follow the railway on a footpath for 3/4miles where there appears to be a crossing on the railway. When you get there there is obviously no crossing . Totally overgrown and no sign when you fight your way into the undergrowth to view the track. Knew I was in right area with my is app.
It is obvious there has been no crossing here for many years. 1 1/2 mile diversion if you attempt to find it.
Footpath marking are in a poor state. And many ploughed fields to cross. Not recommended.

19 Apr 2024Where the apparent path goes off to the left between Meadow Cottage and the East Coast mainline railway bridge there are laminated notices from Bassetlaw DC on the chevron road signs indicating the bend to the right under the bridge. They are regarding the temporary closure of the path you describe (East Markham FP4). The date of closure commencing was 2015 and has another year to run before the actual 'stopping up' of the path becomes legal and no longer a right of way. It doesn't lead anywhere now as the bridge that used to cross the line was blown up when the ECML was electrified.
