Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I walked this route with two pals on a gorgeous sunny day and would highly recommend it. You start on a cycle path out of the city, down to the coast through fields and woodland, and walk into Queensferry with the sea next to you and the Forth Bridges in the distance. It's a long walk but flat and very lovely.

Loved walking along the pedestrian walkway through Edinburgh. I usually cycle this path to get to work. The whole route to the Queensferry is great - highly walkable with nice varied landscapes. No issues following the route. The woodland opening onto the beach is my favourite part.

This is such a lovely walk that takes you through lots of varied landscapes - the city, woodland, rivers, and finally onto the beach. Quite quickly you get onto the North Edinburgh Path Network (or the Telford/Roseburn path), which is a green corridor through Edinburgh for pedestrians and cyclists only which is an amazing city asset. There are signs petitioning to 'save' the corridor from plans to turn it into a tram line, which would be a great shame. There is a slightly fiddly bits going through the back of a carpark to get back onto the route but it's not a big deal at all. The route goes over a beautiful river, the open land of a beautiful estate house, and finally into a forested route along Queensferry beach, which is truly magnificent. We saw a dead baby killer whale on the beach! Queensferry is a quaint little village with nice pubs and the starting point to cross over the epic Forth Bridge.

This is a lovely walk - parts by the coast just east of Queensferry are really stunning. Makes sense to join the Blackhall Path at Davidson's Mains, rather than Queedi one's more more circuitous route to the south from this point. But I think there's a slight plotting error here - you can either go slightly to the north along Silverknowes Terrace/Drive, or to the south through the Tesco carpark and onto the Blackhall Path, but I don't think you can go in between. Nearly the whole route of off-road (or off busy roads) until Haymarket, when you're walking along main streets, but that's unavoidable really.
