25 Sep 2023Not a lot to add to the two very thorough reviews already posted - I agree with them both.
Strider
24 Jul 2022I walked from Putney to Clapham.
This is a pleasant route quiet urban roads to the Thames. Lovely views alongside the river through Wandsworth Park then ducking into new high rise estates. It is a bit zig-zaggy but it's easy to follow the Thames Path signs through the manicured pedestrian walkways through the canyon of towers. Gently uphill (10%) past Victorian terraces and you arrive at busy Clapham Junction Station.
Good for wheels, paved all the way, some cycle paths help, a walk with interesting variety, lots to see.

24 Jul 2022The route zigzags along residential roads to travel eastward toward the River Thames and the Thames Path National Trail. It reaches Wandsworth Park through a couple of arches linking modern housing with an older and grander riverside house. The path along the river and the side of the park is lined with lovely shade-giving mature trees. After the end of the park, it’s necessary to move inland slightly, following the Thames Path still, to cross footbridges over the River Wandle as it reaches the Thames. The path stays inland a bit longer as it skirts some new building and a refuse site (not smelly!) but soon returns to the river, only to leave it again to go around the Ship pub and under the Wandsworth Bridge. This is all more pleasant than it sounds!
After the bridge some steps are avoided by using the longer slope, making this a step-free route. Now the route heads east away from the river, between nicely landscaped new apartment blocks. The busy York Road A3205 is crossed using pedestrian lights, before turning up a residential street. This becomes a footpath under the railway, and then some more nice residential streets which lead gradually uphill towards Plough Road and the A3036 to Clapham Junction Station.
I was generally pleased with this route. I think it fulfilled my intentions whilst remaining pleasant and mostly traffic free. The only downside is that the zigzagging requires more careful navigation.
