Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

28 May 2023 (edited 27 May 2023)This was a nice walk just walking along a section (photo 07) very narrow path then you get to
Mill Hill Hollow turn right to Woodford and Chester Road this a little distance of walk was very dangerous (photo Woodford Road) as there is no pavement and as I was walking cross 2 car from either side just got passed me. However, the rest of the walk was nice and pleasant till I got passed the big field on my left (photo 10) came to crossing with no sign, not clear which path to carry on a sign would be helpful on this turning (photo 12).

12 Nov 2022A delightful flat walk on pavements and footpaths, through the streets and fields between counties. Only one 100m section on an narrow road with high hedges felt a bit hazardous (see pic 1).
Got slightly caught out by the gpx sending me into a housing estate but easy to double back and go around.

08 May 2022I walked this route Poynton to Hazel Grove on a dry day after a mostly long dry month. The route is well plotted so easy to follow, there is one short section of road with no pavement or verge and there could perhaps be cattle but I saw none.
I was intrigued by the 'Shared Space Village' sign with the instruction, or was it a request to 'Give Way to All'. Leaving along London Road stay on the right, east side to gain easy access to Poynton Lake which offers some respite from the traffic.
The first real footpath is entered by a tall kissing gate which felt like entering a medieval torture device, the path is fenced and could be muddy. Don't feed the horses and they will ignore walkers. A small detour to pass under the new road allows sight of Norbury Brook which shares our bridge. A gate allows access to the path alongside the new road, of use only to cyclists I guess so this footpath may be awaiting an upgrade.
The Brook is the boundary into Greater Manchester where the road has been improved to provide a pavement. But most of the short road walk is in Cheshire East and there is no pavement or verge so care is needed as there really is no opportunity to avoid this. The open field edge path is a delight with a bank to the north lined with mature Beech Trees below which were Bluebells in early May.
Turning towards the road the path is well used, steep and eroded so a bit of a challenge. Crossing the main road the route moves onto estate roads. One final bit of green alongside the rail line before arriving at walk's end, the rail station. I didn't feel welcome at the meeting place of Hazel Grove but having travelled along the A6 through the town I have seen nothing better. A task for locals to resolve.
