Description

Read all the reviews describing the overgrown paths and difficulties with the original route.

Suspect that there are too many industrial sites that would need to be avoided if trying to stay really close to the coast.

Also studied local exercise heat maps in order to avoid the following hazards:

Overgrown / worn out steps at the lifeboat works
Findon quarry
Shooting range
Blackhills quarry
Aberdeen South harbour works

The alternative is to walk mainly on the B road between Portlethen, Findon and Cove.

Upon reaching Cove the remaining journey to the city takes place on the stunning coastal footpath to the city

Walked this route today before submitting - much improved.

**As per the original route there are sections along clifftop paths and care is required.**

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Really nice walk on a cold and sunny day.

Left Portlethen at 11:15 on a Tuesday morning.

Here are some notes and timings from the walk in case they are useful:

30 mins
Reach Findon

1h
Reach the first pavement in Cove

1h10
Turn off into Cove woodland walk path

1h25
Cross the railway bridge and walk past Cove bay hotel

1h35
Reach the stunning clifftop paths that take you all the way to the City

2h45
Reach the new Aberdeen South harbour

3h
Balnagask golf club house

3h30
Reach Union Square

3 to 4 hours should be appropriate for most walkers.

Hill walking boots required.
