Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

11 Nov 2023 (edited 14 Nov 2023)I walked half of this route, between Port Talbot and Margam, and reviewed it in 'Porpor two', so I might as well repeat what I wrote here...
The route from Port Talbot is very urban and starts by following a cycleway alongside Harbour Way. When this road was constructed they only put a cycleway halfway along it, passing close to the steelworks. That means that you have to duck under a railway bridge and follow a backstreet route through Margam. (The only bit I would alter is an odd kink in the route that uses roads instead of a signposted cycleway. The cycleway is better.) It's all pretty easy and flat, and is adequately signposted for cyclists and Wales Coast Path walkers, but it's also just a case of walking past houses, with one bit alongside a sports field. I finished at the big roundabout between Margam and Margam Country Park.
Although I once walked from the big roundabout to Pyle, I wouldn't consider doing it again. There's a path alongside a busy road, and it's used as an alternative for the Wales Coast Path when the Afon Cynffig is flooded. That's really the only reason to walk beside the road to Pyle. In recent days I got the bus along that road, travelling four times back and forth, and that was good enough for me.

20 Jun 2023A safe if unexciting cycle path mixed between segrated traffic lanes and traffic free routes, with some queiter lanes. Poorly maintained for wheels in some places particularly just outside Pyle.
