Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

March / October 2022. Direction: Llantwit Major to Porthcawl.

Done in two sections. This stretch in general has some of the most dramatic cliff and sea scapes (Photos 1 and 2). It also includes Merthyr Mawr and its sand dunes, leading on to the sandy beaches around Porthcawl. Quite a varied walk all told. The stretch away from the coastal path between Monknash is on a B road with just a small section at Marcross with a pavement. This can be avoided by staying on the Wales Coast Path all the way instead.

I ran this from Porthcawl to Llantwit, a beautiful coastal route with stunning views through out.

From Porthcawl you go along the beach , this will take you through a little soggy sandy ground and through some woodland into merthyrmawr. Merthyrmawr is a little village with scattered cottages with a path that a stunning path that takes you back onto the coast route into Ogmore....from Ogmore Ci recommend coast all the way, easy to follow paths and take you into Llantwit.

I don't recommend following the route in land as you will be on a fairly busy country road (stick to the coast) toilets and caffies on route.

I don't recommend this route at night, kicking out of the pubs in Penarth with lots of teenagers drinking in the woodlands or marshes of merthyrmawr. Beautiful in the day.
