Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I agree with the previous reviewer. Just a couple of places where the path was initially unclear but we soon worked it out.

A good route with good views and no significant obstacles.

A mostly very pleasant walk that never strays far from the narrow-guage railway line between Porthmadog and Ffestiniog. You will be walking along the lower reservoir of Ffestiniog power station, then via Dduallt station down to Llyn Mair lake where there is a short detour to Coedydd Maentwrog nature reserve.

The next couple of km is along a paved road which has no wide verge but the traffic is not too heavy. When you reach Rhyd, you'll need to turn to a public footpath down to a forest path and continue further down towards the sea.

The last stretch of the route is on paved quiet roads and it ends with a long walk along the seafront at Porthmadog, where the sea is actually not visible because the pavement is blocked by a road.

Slopes are never too steep on this route and the surface is ok for an average walker.

The "long walk along the seafront" is across "The Cob" a man made embankment carrying the road and narrow gauge railway. It is possible to cross the road at the opposite end from Porthmadog, climb some steps (with a footpath sign) and then walk alongside the railway with views out to sea and inland.
