Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

19 Jan 2023A mix of landscapes along this pleasant walk from Poole to Bournemouth, nearly all of it alongside the sea except for the Sandbanks Rd stretch. Once you come off at Shore Road and hit the beach there is a nice cafe for a snack and coffee before walking the rest of the way along the Promenade, which is wide and flat enough for both cyclists and walkers.

16 Sep 2022An easy, accessible and pleasant walk, mostly right along the coast, with lovely sea views and beaches. Lots of cafes, toilets and places to rest along the route too.

14 Jul 2022This route takes you through the Old town of Poole and onto the Quay, where you will find a bronze statue of Lord Baden Powel founder of the Scout movement, on the Quay. You will be able to find shops for just about anything you need and there is also a Go Outdoors shop if you take a small detour, through the town, if you need new boots etc. The walk will take you along the sea edge of the Bay. There is a short distance along some road, a mile or so, before coming to the top of Evening Hill, here there is a set of steps, to the right, which can take you off the road and along the sea edge, for a short distance, before returning to the path alongside the road. The sunsets along here are spectacular. Another short distance to reach the promenade and its a slightly curved three miles to reach Bournemouth Pier. There are many water points along the promenade, safe to get drinking water from. There are also cold water showers if you feel the need. Further along, at Boscombe water front, there are showering facilities which you can use at a small cost.

11 Nov 2021I did this route from Poole to Bournemouth. Very easy route to follow. From Poole railway station follow cycle route 25 as it goes through a little bit of Poole shopping centre then round the edge of Parkstone Bay. Leaving the cycle route continue along past the marina. There is a great viewpoint just past the marina with views to Brownsea Island and Sandibanks. Continue on to Poole Head. Nearly all of the rest of the walk is on the beach front. There is a wide concrete traffic free road/path all the way to Bournemouth Pier. Along the path which is actually cycle route 2 (except for July and August when bikes banned) there is a near continuous row of beach huts with high cliffs behind. Just before Bournemouth Pier the route actually takes a flight of steps up the cliff face (just before Amusement arcade). I just continued on the flat past the Amusement arcade and then turned left and when up slight hill to the end of the walk.
95% of kerbs on the route are flat, a few are not but are low and a slight diversion will find a flat kerb. If the path along the seafront is joined at Bournemouth pier not via the flight of steps down to beach path (100 meters on further on) this route is suitable for wheels. It is all on made up pavements and paths with no stiles or obstructions
Plenty of cafes and toilet facilities
A pleasant walk.
