Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

This was a great walk - I recommend it! We walked it north to south and it was a bit of a surprise coming out onto the disused railway line just by Mynydd Lliw Common and seeing the fingerpost pointing back towards Pontarddulais in what was clearly a more direct line! This is the Clyne Valley route that goes all the way down to the Mumbles, but it's very new and so despite being very obvious and signposted on the ground it's not marked on OS maps yet and so it needs someone to make a new Slow Way version for this route some time. It's tarmacked and smooth and very accessible, and as far as i can tell does go all the way to Pontarddulais.
Still, we walked the route that's shown here which takes that two-sides-of-a-triangle up Gopa Hill, and although longer than the Clyne Valley route it was really nice. I'd do it again for sure. I prefer not to be on tarmac all the time and the route up Gopa Hill went through nice quite woodland. It was complete white-out when we were there, but I guess the top of Gopa Hill (Gopa means summit in Welsh) probably has some good views. And on the other side the route passes the Pontarddulais Garden Centre which has a restaurant and could be good for a halfway coffee.

This is a good route! The southern half is largely on the Gower Way and on a dismantled railway line. The northern part is a mix of rural lanes and suburbs.

I only wish it had not been so misty when we went up Gopa Hill as we couldn't see anything.

I'd 100% walk it again! Everyone in Pontarddulais and Gorseinon should give it a go.
