Description

This is an excellent, five-star and model Slow Ways route that largely follows the River Plym. It's beautiful and extremely easy to follow.

The route is inspired by Plyyel, but takes the reviews into account - sticking to the cycle path which is a bit further, but much easier and more accessible than the alternative ways.

Everyone in Plymouth and Yelverton should give it a go if they've not already done so

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

I can only agree with the previous reviewers, this is everything a Slow Way should be - easy to navigate, beautiful, interesting. Even the sections through the industrial outskirts of Plymouth have plenty to recommend them.

I walked from Yelverton in to Plymouth, and this way round is pretty much downhill all the way. It works brilliantly as a Bus-and-back route too. Today I caught the #1 bus from Plymouth to Yelverton. While there aren't really many pubs or cafes on route (there's The Skylark in Clearbrook near Yelverton, and obviously lots of options in Plymouth itselft) there were various "coffee vans" along the way at some of the major tourist attractions (e.g. Plym Bridge).

There was a little bit of flooding near to Marsh Mills, but nothing really to worry about, and I was very surprised there wasn't more given the recent weather.

Overall - a brilliant slow way, and one I am actively planning to walk again.

Loved walking this route. It's a 5-star near perfect Slow Way route. It's very easy to navigate, following the well signed National Cycle Network 27 between the Pymouth Barbican / Marina and Yelverton on the Plym Valley trail.

We walked it as part of the Slow Ways National Parks Trail Challenge. The route would be a great (and kind) start of finish to the trail.

There are great views, two excellent National Trust estates (Saltram and Plymbridge Woods), a tunnel, great woods, a very clean looking River Plym and more.

I was distracted so am unsure - but although there is a fair amount of ascent (if going towards Yelverton) and some hills/ramps, I think it's obstacle free.

I'd love to walk this route again and certainly will do.
