Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

10 Aug 2024Initially I found the map a bit vague, coming to the first roundabout and heading towards the cathedral could have more detail. A warning to cyclists, the area around the cathedral is a no cycle area and we were stopped by an officer who kindly let us off a £100 fine!
Coming out of Peterborough you follow nice smooth pathways along canals which all seems to be very accessible with large open fields and a few passes over bridges.
Coming into Whittlesey I found a small local bicycle shop called "The Green Wheel Cycle Company",very helpful in getting some of the basics like spare inner tube, seat cover etc. The route then takes you through the high street where there are some nice little independent cafes and a bakery where we stocked up on snacks.
I would use this route again if I had to, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do it again.

10 Aug 2024This route was overall really good. first bit was a bit difficult to follow on the map but once you get to the river it was fine to follow. peterborough has lots of shops and cafes and a beautiful cathedral; we really enjoyed exploring this bit. Theres a train station in peterborough. This whole route was very accessible to less-able bodied people too. We stopped at the bicycle shop coming into whittlesley to get bits for our trip. We did go on a B road going into whittlesley but it was quite quiet at the time, just to be aware of. there's some lovely independent local businesses in whittlesley; we enjoyed the cakes and coffees at the cafes!
liked this route and found it suitable for both cyclists and walkers.

10 Aug 2024Initial part was hard to follow as the route wasn't very clear, we got lost a couple times going off the track. Wasn't the nicest scenery through peterborough. Was a nice cathedral though. Lot of shops too to stock up for a longer walk/ ride. After the town of Peterborough the rout was much prettier alongside the river. From the cathedral was lovely, no cycles allowed, an officer stopped my friend for having his bike. Lovely canal boats with good tracks, couple bridges, accessible but a little boring. I liked the walk through the high streets coming into witlesea, good independents baker and bars.

21 Feb 2023Love this route between Peterborough and Whittlesey. It's direct and dry and mostly paved because it is a Sustrans cycle route. There is probably a slightly more accessible route at the start in Peterborough where you can avoid walking alongside the A15 and down the pedestrianised Bridge Street before turning across and along the River Nene. The meeting point in Whittlesey is a lovely covered market and the nearby St Mary's church. Be aware that the train station is about 10 minutes walk out of town.

29 May 2022Very direct, all weather route as its all tarmac. No gates or stiles as most of it is National Cycle Network.
