Description

This route avoids the dangerous stretch of road between St Andrews Major and Wenvoe. The fields between Wrinstone Farm and Wenvoe could be waterlogged, especially in winter; this section can be avoided by following the lane north of Wrinstone Farm & Station Road East into Wenvoe

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

14 May 2023 Spring

May 2023. Direction: Dinas Powis to Peterstone-super-Ely.

An excellent walk through woodland, country lanes and farmland. The rolling hills were a big feature, with some stunning rural views along the way. It was well signed most of the way (the only section not clear was through Wrinstone Farm) and styles and gates were well maintained all the way. It was muddy and wet in a few places and this was after a few days of dry weather. The ford at around 250 metres after Wrinstone Farm was a couple of inches deep, but with care you can walk along the low "wall" (Photo 2). If you`re into wild garlic , then this is a classic at this time of year. There is also a convenient pub in the village of Wenvoe at around the half way point. As per a previous review, when approaching the A4050 Port Road, take the path to the right which leads to the tunnel under the road instead of the one to the left which leads up to the road itself.

This is a nice rural walk that is well marked and pretty easy to follow. The only issue is on the east side of Wenvoe, where the GPX is not quite correct. Instead of using the stile that comes out on Port Road, use the underpass that comes out on Vennwood Close.
