06 May 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)I walked this route from Dinas Powys train station to Peterston-super-Ely in 3 hours (brisk pace). The only part I hesitate to recommend is the road section between St Andrews Major and Vishwell Farm (edge of Wenvoe). This road is wide enough for vehicles to travel quite fast, has no verge, hedges, and numerous bends. Traffic wasn’t heavy but there were still several trucks and lorries which made it dangerous. Moreover, the footpath which cuts out a section of this road appeared to be disused; I saw the marker but would have had to fight my way through a hedge to access the field, with no path visible through the crops.
Alternative 1: take the narrow lane which forms a loop just north of the main road - but this is only slightly reduces the dangerous section.
Alternative 2: avoid this road completely by using Beauville Lane and the stony track linking Beauville Farm and Wrinstone Farm - longer and hillier but quiet and scenic; however, there’s a section between the farms which is often waterlogged.
The rest of the route was easy to navigate and mostly scenic.
