Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

09 May 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)The biggest problem with this route is near the Petworth end, it goes on to Kingspit Road which is the lorry bypass route for Petworth and there is no pavement, very dangerous even if only for around 50 meters. There is an alternative though which we took which uses footpaths that the 'serpent trail' has also now been rerouted for this same reason. Screen shot in photos of the route we took with a blue line. Parts of the route were very muddy and only just passable so I wouldn't recommend this route in the winter or after a lot of rain. There is only one style on the whole of the route, this is where the route crosses the A29 but there is a dog gate. One of the kissing gates on the crossing of Lording Road. It can only have been 18 inches wide at it's largest point so rucksacks had to be removed and the gate entered sideways!.

14 May 2022I completely agree with your concerns about Kingspit Lane. Following the new route of the Serpent Trail past Montpelier Farm and across Brinkshole Heath is the ideal solution. I have uploaded a revised route PETBIL Three.
