Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

An interesting and varied route, covering woodlands, estuaries and farmlands. There are a few sections which are on roads, particularly leaving Calenick and walking along the bypass between Playing Place and Carnon Downs which are the reasons for three stars. There were opportunities to get food from the petrol station by Playing Place and you go past the Norway Inn pub in Perranarworthal. I would walk this route again.

Varied and interesting route between Truro and Penryn both of which have plenty of facilities and transport options. A couple of road sections without footpaths and with potential for fast travelling traffic require caution and combined with the general reliance on roads over footpaths this is why I ultimately have given it three stars. But overall route choice makes sense balancing directness with everything else and the majority is pleasant and enjoyable walking.

The start and end point in Penryn and Truro have plenty of ammenities and onward travel options. Despite a large proportion of the route following roads, it was generally walking friendly. Caution is advised when travelling along the long steep hill at Carclew, as drivers speed around the many bends on this road. There is a pub in Perranarworthal, shop and pub in Perranwell, pub in Devoran and shop in Playing Place on the route, so plenty of options for refreshments. All footpaths were well maintained and clearly signposted.
