15 Nov 2023Walked from Pengam to Blackwood. A straightforward urban route. The only slight issue is it directs you down a path marked private property at the end of The Rise, but this is easily remedied if you stay on Edward Road and follow the path at the end round.

23 Jun 2022June 2022. Direction: Blackwood to Pengam.
A urban route, so you are rarely out of sight of housing, but there are a couple of sections worthy of the effort. Gordon Road eventually becomes more or a lane, blocked off from traffic in parts (Photo 1), and then leads on to footpaths (Photo 2). There is a nice stretch between Blackwood and Pengam, overlooking the fields to the right, but it doesn`t last long. A short detour to the planned route, due to a new housing development, is needed to get on to The Rise. The other area of note is the area around bridge over the River Rhymney (Photos 4 and 5) and the path leading up to the main road in Pengam.
Most of this route is suitable for wheels, but the stretch after the bridge over the River Rhymney is fairly steep and uneven with steps at the top.

07 Jan 2022It was never going to be the prettiest of walks, very urban through housing estates etc. Other than the goats by the footbridge over the river Rhymney there's not a lot to see. (No troll by the way).
Footpaths around allotments in Cefn Fforest are VERY muddy, but the weather had been awful. Also the route takes you up a lane that is private property, but you can loop around it to the left.
