31 Aug 2023We walked this route from Pateley Bridge to Ripon at the end of August. The route follows well-established and signposted routes of the Nidderdale Way out of Pateley Bridge and the Ripon Rowel Walk into Ripon with a central linking pathway. There is a wide variety of beautiful scenery with fantastic views of Nidderdale from the Panorama Walk out of Pateley Bridge, lovely woodland walking round Eavestone Lake and in Skell Bank Wood and the magnificent walk through Studley Deer Park, with views of Ripon Cathedral in the distance.
There are refreshment points at the Half Moon Inn at Fell Beck and at the Sawley Arms.
Although generally well maintained, there were broken stiles just beyond Hollin Hill Farm and at the entrance to Skell Bank Wood.
The only negative part of the walk is the almost one mile of walking along the B6265, which was quite busy with fast moving traffic, though the road is straight so gives good views of oncoming traffic and there are wide grass verges on which to take refuge.
The start of a walk, navigating out of a town and onto the correct path, is always one of the more difficult navigation challenges, and the route on Slow Ways does not accurately show the position of the Panorama Walk out of Pateley Bridge. I have attached the minor change needed to correct this.
Overall, this is an excellent route providing exhilarating walking through beautiful North Yorkshire countryside.

09 May 2021A very enjoyable walk. Given four starts as it would not be suitable for buggies or wheel chairs.
