Description
Know a better way to get from Paddock Wood to Marden? Well not sure about that but I'll give it a go. Not an area I know or a route I have walked. The route is a desk job using OS maps and Google Street View.
I do hope that the Padmar-1 can be resolved by a claim for the track across the airstrip, this was not a wartime field and hence unlikely to have had an emergency closure. This route does show on early Ordnance Survey maps.
This temporary alternative tries to avoid use of the B class roads in the area. None of the roads in the countryside have pavements and the roads are narrow, with minimal verge, but there is little opportunity of avoiding these. The longest stretch of road Yew Tree Green Road to Castle Hill. Here is or was! the Castle Inn which was for sale on Google in 2021 so don't get too excited.
It would appear that the River Teise has always been a barrier to travel

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

08 May 2023 (edited 10 May 2023)Very nice walk, lots of orchards along the way especially around Marden, the apple blossom was fabulous in the first week of May. Beautiful old houses, woods with native bluebells, a very rare unconverted oasthouse (!), and a lovely welcome and a Coronation Bank Holiday barbeque at the Unicorn in Marden.
Two smallish niggles. There was a climbable but locked farm gate off the road at Mascalls Court Farm TQ 6774 4380, perhaps to prevent GPX-misled traffic for the housing being built just behind (on land they sold!). Minor design niggle is the long no-pavement road section around Yew Tree Rd, there's a short footpath that cuts out the western corner, and a way to avoid the eastern half too. In practice it was fine though, traffic was very quiet and kept a good distance away when passing, but traffic elsewhere was pretty quiet this weekend, could be a Coronation traffic abberation. Didn't register if the pub on Castle Hill has reopened, oops.
Onwards to Headcorn, via Marden Meadow nature reserve to see the orchids. Might test MarHea 1 or maybe recce something similar, friendly locals in the pub garden had some helpful tips for me.
Access - not for wheelchairs. Otherwise, one locked farm gate which I hope is temporary. Kissing gates, steps, stiles, 2 heavy field gates with sagging hinges and very stiff sprung bolts. Uneven surfaces hidden by lush grass. Dried up signs of some bad winter mud, but today was dry enough for me.
Edited to add photos and the locked farm gate which I'd forgotten.
