Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Benjoda

21 Apr 2022 Spring

Maybe this route caught me on the wrong day but I found it tedious and long. It's fine as way of walking from Paddock Wood to Maidstone - the paths are easy to find, it's fairly direct and much the way is on flat, gravel or tarmac surfaces .

But the route gives little back.

With one exception - the view from Tutsham, back over the Medway Valley. Not quite enough to compensate for the tediousness of the rest of the route - but almost.

31 Oct 2021 Autumn

This is a reasonable route with some pleasant sections by the river Medway and in the higher ground above Yalding.( Walked in late summer /autumn)
I walked this in 3 sections from Maidstone to Teston, then Teston to Yalding and finally Yalding to Paddock Wood. I did lose the route on a couple of occasions and had to use road routes to recover route. The route out of Yalding towards Paddock Wood was very boggy. There was a difficult to find section before getting to Yalding where there route across field was hard to follow as there was a sharp turn marked with chicken wire in them middle of field. ( please note this could be a more difficult in winter with muddy sections near river and care needed)
Overall the route was generally ok for confident walkers and not suitable for bikers and wheelers.
