Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

15 Oct 2024Excellent route with good moorland views and pretty woodland.
Partly follows the Pennine Way which is well signed.
Not suitable for wheels due to steep rocky ground in the woods and across the moors.
And the Packhorse Inn is back open, Thursdays to Sundays!.

11 Mar 2023I walked from Hebden Bridge to Pack Horse Inn.
Absolutely loved this walk. The start of the walk out of Hebden Bridge is steep and quickly gets you up on to the moors. Lovely to see climbers on the rocks on the way up towards Heptonstall. I made a detour and went into Heptonstall as I love the place.
The route was straight forward and well labelled. I had great weather for early February which made it particularly enjoyable.
The Pack Horse Inn is now open and was busy serving food but I just stopped for a pint.

01 Sep 2021This is a very fine walk along well walked and waymarked paths, with some superb views over the Upper Calder Valley, and its tributaries (specifically, the Colden Valley and Hebden Dale) and beyond. It takes in a short section of the Pennine Way, with a lovely lunch spot (if you time it right!) on the Graing Water below Gorple & Widdop reservoirs.
The only problem is that the Packhorse Inn is now closed and up for sale. The chances of its eventual new owners keeping it open as a pub is ... debateable, at best!.
