Description
This route from Oxshott to Epsom starts by using pavement along the A244. On entering Prince's Coverts it uses concessionary tracks, some of which become a slippery muddy mess following rain. These lead to a very badly surfaced lane which reaches the A243 at The Star pub. Crossing this main road you then follow a bridleway along the edge of Ashtead Common, past the Stew Ponds on Epsom Common and to the B280. You follow this at first alongside the common, and then into Epsom

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

27 Feb 2022I walked from Epsom to Oxshott.
I found the route easy to follow, and I really enjoyed the whole section from Epsom to the Kingston Road, where The Star is well placed for refreshments. Much of this stage is on a bridleway through Ashtead Common, following the boundary between London and Surrey.
The section through the woods (Prince's Coverts) between Oxshott and the Kingston Road had some serious boot sucking mud for about 1km in total. It may be possible to find alternative less muddy tracks parallel to the main track chosen (or maybe not); my solution was to scramble through the woods when it all got a bit too much.
Coming out of the woods at Oxshott, the last 1 km is along the traffic heavy A244 Leatherhead Road, where the pavement is sometimes narrow.
So that's about 80% really good 5 star route, and the other 20% is less pleasant, at least after rain! Sadly for me this knocked it down to 3 stars, but in dry weather it may well warrant a higher rating.

28 Feb 2022There is a significantly longer route through the Coverts that is metalled and stays firm following rain. It makes a large triangle to the north of the described route and uses "The Avenue".
