Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

16 Dec 2022This is a great Slow Way with some really beautiful sections - just take a look at some of my autumnal photos!
I would have given it five stars, but the 100 metres on the A357 is less than ideal. I felt OK walking this as there was space to step off the road, but some people may not like this especially if it is busy.
The suggestions of Hayne lane sound good and could perhaps create a good route through Honiton too. Maybe someone with local knowledge could upload an alternative?
I walked this route has part of a hike from Budleigh to Ottery to Honiton and thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing.

20 Feb 2022Nice route. No issues. Can alternatively use Hayne lane for other end of honiton (albeit a steep route).

13 Feb 2022This route had loads of positives - varied countryside from woodland, farmland and more urban scenery; only one short section of busy road just before Roundball Hill from the Gittisham direction. This felt OK to do on my own, but wouldn't be keen with small children or dogs. The view from near Moor Croft Farm was great, and worth stopping to look at after the hill up to it. There were quite a lot of stiles or kissing gates, would not be wheelchair or buggy friendly.
On arriving in to Honiton there is another route avoiding much of the pavement walking, heading through the meadows before going under the railway bridge.

04 Sep 2021A great walk, though I'd alter slightly at Honiton to take in the paths along the bank of the stream through Littletown, rather than walk the length of Honiton Bottom Road. There's also a short, but very busy road section on the A375 just past Roundball Hill, which is a little unavoidable on this route.
A number of fields with livestock when I walked this and some muddy, overgrown sections of footpath on East Hill above Ottery St Mary. Narrows to less than 0.5m in places between fence lines and undergrowth.
Gittisham is lovely village to walk through.
Quite a few stiles - I wish I'd counted.
Would I walk again - absolutely!.
