Description
This route is another option to the west of the moor avoiding the more direct crossing of the north moor and the firing ranges of okepri(1). Unlike okepri(2) this route avoids using The Granite Way shared walking/cycling route, where for those wheeling - makes for a better option between Okehampton and Lydford. It would be possible to choose sections from both routes, as there are crossovers at Lydford and at Sourton. Okepri(3) has refreshment opportunities at The Highwayman Inn at Sourton, The Bearslake Inn at Lake (just off the route) as well as pubs and cafes at Mary Tavy, Peter Tavy and the Dartmoor Inn at Merrivale

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

06 Sep 2024I found this to be a delightful, if long walk. It avoids most of the high moorland of the north moor as well as all three firing ranges on Dartmoor, so is never closed on any day. Navigation is needed from Merrivale to Princetown to avoid a long walk in on the B3312. There are plenty of refreshment opportunities and road-walking is avoided for most of its length. I would be happy to return and do this walk again.
