Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Oct 2024I completed this walk yesterday travelling east from New Arley. It can be divided roughly into two broad and equal length sections - rural (outside of Nuneaton) and urban (in Nuneaton). If I were to do it again, i'd do it in the other direction as walking into Nuneaton was a bit of a slog. I was tempted to only give it three stars, but Astley brings more interest than I expected - so it gets four.
Leaving New Arley fairly quickly, the route takes you around woodland and onto Gorsy Spinney. The positive here is that it's downhill all the way into Astley so you get good views ahead. Once in Astley, look out for the New Lamp, the church and the castle. All have some interesting history to provide some interest.
Leaving Astley behind, the route takes you past the old Castle gardens and northwards to Robinson's End. It's here that the second more urban half of the walk begins. The route takes you pretty much through the whole length of the suburb of Stockingford. There is a bit of respite from the urban feel courtesy of Whittleford Park, but this is split by the stepped Moore's Footbridge over the railway (photo 11). The remaining walk takes you directly into the town centre via the busy Queens Road.
I would recommend the walk and would do it again if I had to, but in the opposite direction I think. It has stiles, footbridges and gates to negotiate in the rural section and a few roads to cross in the urban half.
