Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

01 Jun 2022Lots to love about this route. Some good views and great old paths.
When I walked it there were some trees over the path on the hill above Abercarn. It was possible to get around them and hopefully they will be cleared at some point. I'd take a stick to clear the nettles too!
I don't think this route is good enough to be in the network because of how it ends in Abercarn. Depending on how you look at it, it's either not accurate or not safe. Either way, I'll upload a new version of the route.
I'm also going to suggest a route that makes use of the old lane that hugs the woodland, as I reckon that is a good option for someone to check.

06 May 2022Direction: Abercarn to Newbridge, early May 2022
A short walk around the hillside from Pant-yr-Esk Road through to Newbridge. Worth the 4 stars for the woodland part of the walk, full of bluebells at the time of my walk (Photo 1). The second part of the walk used to be through dark and gloomy forestry, but the trees have now been felled, presumably due to the larch disease, and it is now open, with a few stands of broadleaf trees remaining.

29 Apr 2022A nice enough route, easy to follow with a pleasant woodside walk over the hill. Good views.
