Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Steep, challenging route but very clear waymarking throughout. Extremely steep around Nwlch yr Eifl and Nant Gwyrtheyrn. Cafe at Nant Gwyrtheyrn nicely breaks up the walk, and Nefyn had enough facilities at the end of a long tiring day. Would definitely recommend this as a slow way.

A challenging route but balanced by good waymarking and paths and the addition of Nant Gwyrtheyrn immediately after (or before) the most challenging stetch up over the quarry hills.

It’s long and steep in part but mostly easy to navigate. There were three spots I lost the path coming from the Llanaelhaearn end.

On where the marked path was obvious a bad steep choice and it was easier to stick to the visible path and rejoin the coast path.

One area where the path was lost to bracken and I had to creep around a field boundary to once again regain the main coastal path.

One where it took a inexplicable detour round a lane and I… stcuk to the main coast path.

The theme is “the coast path is well marked but the seemingly more direct path is much harder to locate on the ground than the map!”

Nefyn was a well supplied village to end up and Llanaelhaearn was worth a resupply from the little community bakery, there’s also a charming cract cente but the public loos were apparently derelict. (And those in Nefyn close early - I opted for the pub!)

Very much a feet-only route and it took me a lot longer than the suggested time even allowing for cake and a sit down at the Nant. There are some big climbs. The views though are very rewarding.

It is perhaps best considered a VERY Slow Way!.
