Description
This is a pretty direct route from Mold to Buckley which includes some off road and some on road sections. On the Mold side there is a walk beside the river and floodplains, a central mile on a busyish road, then quiet lanes and footpath through fields and beside paddocks before Buckley centre. It crosses the Mold bypass in a safe place at the roundabout, where there are also decent pavements and crossing islands.
A review on Molbuc 1 says the fields near Buckley, between Rose Lane and Langford Crescent, "can get a bit boggy, even without bad weather". If that might bother you they suggest skirting round on Rose Lane and Well Street which are "relatively quiet". Or you could stick to the main road instead and save your energy for some more scenic walking elsewhere.
It's a pretty short route with shops etc at both ends but if you are hungry or caught short there are a few options for you near the roundabout where you cross the bypass

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

02 Mar 2024Walked in reverse. A muddy in places route, but perfectly functional.
From the centre of Buckley, for some reason we take a service road to the bypass; personally, I would've carried straight on, as the roads merge. After a bit of a pavement walk, we head down pur first footpath: a tarmac path between walls, until we hit a field. It can be pretty sodden and muddy in places, but not as bad as the paths around and through the paddocks we're about to enter! Thrresa number of stiles and boardwalks, and coupled with the lumpy clay mud, it's not for everyone!
After crossing Wat's Dyke and a footbridge (ironically sometimes flooded), we hit an unpaved road. It's not the busiest road, but the usual caution is needed when negotiating rural lanes. At the end, we join the main road in Mynydd Isa, which we follow downhill, using the pavement at the side of the dual carriageway.
At the bottom, crossings at at the roundabout, and then a good, albeit muddy, footpath along the Alyn brings us into Mold.
A good, if not muddy, route, but not the most spectacular.
