Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Starts off with a bit of main road walking out of Wallington but the start is at the train station which is a good transport link.
The highlight of this route was always going to be the River Wandle which we’re teased with as we pass Elms pond.
The route seems to veer away from the river onto Butter Hill following Wandle Trail signage.
This is a quiet residential area and a pleasant enough route to Wilderness Island.

Sadly there isn’t a route through Wilderness Island so you might get distracted like me and take a short detour to the London Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve.

Passing the Hackbridge community garden is a splendid treat and a nice spot to take a seat and enjoy the space.

The route follows more of the Wandle Trail for a while. If you haven’t walked the Wandle before then this is the perfect taster stroll.

Sadly the route pulls away from the Wandle Trail but heads in the direction of Mitcham Common of which we’re given the briefest of glimpses before heading down a pathway/back alley away from the main road.

At this point you’re reminded of the Wandle’s industrial past before swinging back into main roads and across Mitcham Cricket Green.
After appreciating this lovely conversation area it’s into Mitcham you go.

An alternative would be through the Grange and Beddington Parks into Beddington Farmlands, passing two lakes with wild birds, then back across the railway to cross the A217 at Mill Green.

I meant to say A237 road. I'll add a new route.
