Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Ah, such a shame. I thought I was going to verify this route!

I walked the route from Milton Keynes to Bletchley. Unfortunately the route is gated just to the east of the MK Bowl. Some days it may be open... like the days that David and Dipa walked it... but the gate was locked when I walked it... with no proper access.

I'm going to upload Milble Three as an alternative to the two earlier versions. Third time lucky!?.

Thanks for trying. This is so irritating and shows one of the hazards of plotting routes on the fly. If you look at Google Street View you can see the locked gate. If only I'd followed the bike lane round instead! I think a step free Slow Way could still be possible doing that. Oh well, this is why we get more than one person to check it! It's another example of how ideally, a route needs reviewing in both directions.

Totally understand. If the gate had been open I would have passed it! I noticed the cycle path after I'd already moved on, but agree that is would make another way through. Thanks David!

A pleasant and more direct path - mainly through suburban paths and along Teardrop Lake. Very accessible the whole way.

I started this route from Bletchley. It starts at the station and goes along a wide pavement before accessing the now residential area of Bletchley Park via Turing Way (you get a view of the entrance to the museum if you fancy the excursion). There are still some derelict buildings from the days when it was a codebreaking centre but they are fast being replaced by modern houses. The walk across Leys Park gave me sense of just what a multicultural community of working people the area has. The walk along Whaddon Way offers eateries and shops and you soon find yourself on the pavement of Watling Street. Crossing the roads involves following the shallow ramps under underpasses and wide pedestrian walkways. As you emerge on the short section of the wide pavement of Watling Street there are some tempting food options. As the walk led away from the road and into the Elfield Park, I was greeted with the sight of a motorbike lesson just before a man in a car asked me if I knew where the dog show was. The next section passes along the Cultural Trail past Milton Keynes Bowl, a wooded countrified green way. This then passes through to Loughton Valley Park with its Teardrop Lakes. From there a path leads to the bridge which crosses above the railway, through to the meeting place at the front of Milton Keynes Central Railway. Milton Keynes was absolutely built for Slow Ways and the ability of this route to go so far in green spaces and without stiles or steps is a testament to it. Direct, safe, offroad, accessible, easy to follow, varied and packed with historical and cultural interest, this is a model Slow Way.
