Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.

All in all a nice walk to get away from everyone - don't expect to see anyone else on the trail. Hardly anywhere to sit down for the length of this walk. Semi industrial landscape in areas full of wildlife. Mostly grassed path, some paved \ gravelled and a number of anti bike chicanes, steps and a metal bridge to cross. In the case of the latter don't look down. 99% walkable in shoes\trainers except for two short stretches. The first stretch now has bull rushes growing in it but is easily bypassed. However the second stretch is a lot more challenging... the Bog of Doom. Last year I walked this it was only 4 metres across. This year, in dry weather, i was not expecting it to be wet.. much.... See picture for the 50 metre boggy section, 4" deep! Good job I wore my hiking boots as there is no way to bypass this bit. In wet weather you will need wellies... or a boat!
Recommend a few site seeing detours - at the beginning head to the Tees Transporter Bridge, then to the Clock Tower. A detour to the Tees river viewpoint over the rail bridge of Art is not far. Unfortunately some low IQ jerks have ruined some of the art works on the bridge. A diversion to Locke Park is worthwhile towards the end of the walk. Lots of ducks, herons, geese and swans there and benches to sit on under trees to eat sandwiches purchased en-route from the Asda near to the South Bank station.
