Description

Both reviews of MidHas 1 said the A286 road walking halfway between Fernhurst and Henley is dangerous. Both also encountered a “complete swamp” north of Fernhurst that was very hard to cross or impassable. This route avoids both and includes another suggested change. Hopefully it also retains the “gorgeous” bits they particularly enjoyed. Thank you Ingrina and Rubble for such helpful reviews.

The “mid-route” rest/eat/escape options start quickly in Easebourne @ 2km from Midhurst with a cafe, shop and pub. Then @3km a bus stop, @8.5km Henley has both pub and bus stop, @10km a footpath through Cooksbridge Meadow Nature Reserve goes to a cafe, pub and bus stop on the A286 (800m each way). Fernhurst @11.5km has a pub and a little further off route is a small shop and bus stop. The useful bus is Stagecoach route 70, Guildford to Midhurst. Both end towns have a handful of other decent bus routes, Haslemere also has a train station.

The original route was drawn very loosely and was longer in reality than shown here on the Slow Ways site. In fact this version is shorter. You could save another mile or just south of Henley but that would miss a section the reviews have praised

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.
