20 Aug 2023A bit hard on the feet as it’s road and hard packed tracked. But easy to follow and with fantastic views in every direction. Saw Alton Barnes white horse. Lots of butterflies seen too.

21 Apr 2022This is a great route between M Lavington and Upavon, and is very quiet. Following the section of tarmac road ( White St ) up to the White Horse Trail, which follows alongside the Westdown Artillery Range for the next 7 miles. There is another quiet tarmac road down to the A342, then pavement into Upavon.
As this route runs alongside the Artillery Range there are no facilities mid route.
There is a triangle of grass at the A342, with a p c conc kerb surround or high earth edge, unfortunately I feel this would prevent access to mobility scooters and wheelchairs. The A342 crossing needs to be undertaken with caution, as the road is fast, and visibility poor. SEE PHOTOS
Photo 1 : A342 visibility issue
Photo 2 : Triangle of grass, with kerb
Photo 3 : ditto, from other direction
Photo 4 : small side road, again with kerbs
If Upavon Council were to replace the kerbs to the triangle with drop kerbs, the route could then be limited mobility friendly.
Overall I recorded the route on GPS as 9.06 mi, with an ascent of 240 metres.
