Description

From the starting point in Meltham, cross Holmfirth Road, turn R, then L into Greenfield Road before the church, follow this round to Mill Moor road. Turn L and walk up Mill Moor Road until it crosses New Bridge Road and becomes unmetalled. It is now Brow Grains Road. Follow this up and through a gate. Bear R along an obvious path, cross Muddy Brook by large stepping stones, continue straight on up the track past the pumping station on the left. Turn R at the T junction and continue downhill. Turn L through a gate immediately before a gate across the track. Follow the track uphill and go through a gate onto Deer Hill Road. Turn L then after a few metres, turn R and follow a track across 2 fields to a stepped stile over a wall. A water treatment works is immediately ahead, bear L along a path by the fencing, with Deer Hill Reservoir embankment ahead. Continue in the same line as the path and straight up the embankment. Turn R and follow the embankment road around to the shooting club. Pass this on the left and through a gate onto National Trust land. You are now walking along Deer Hill conduit. Pass through 2 gates in short succession marking National Trust boundaries. Shortly after the second, bear R on an obvious path downhill towards a house. Pass through a gate and onto the house driveway. Continuing downhill and bear R downhill leaving farm buildings to the R, then round a house in front and down a path to meet Binn Lane through a gate. Turn R. Wessenden Road joins from the L, continue walking downhill on Binn Road, past houses then mills on the L. At a roundabout go straight ahead onto Fall Lane, under the A62, Manchester Road. Continue to the T junction of Town Gate and Church Lane. Bear R with the church to your L. Cross the River Colne to meet the T junction of Station Road. Turn L and walk uphill to see the Railway station in front of you

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.
