Description
This is a great way to walk between Marlborough and Hungerford. The route mostly follows the River Kennet along beautiful, easy to follow and flat paths. The route snakes a couple of times to include the charming villages of Ramsbury and Mildenhall.
The route does include a couple of flights of steps and a handful of stiles.
The route is inspired by Marhun One, but in response to reviews of that route, avoids the road walking at Axford and makes use of footpaths and very quiet lanes. I am sure that someone could create an alternative that is more accessible. A more direct version that does not snake so much could be created too

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

03 Sep 2022 (edited 05 Sep 2022)Marlborough to Hungerford 2 (Marhun 2) review.
An excellent Slow Way that mostly follows the River Kennet eastwards to where it meets the Kennet & Avon Canal at Hungerford. This was of particular interest to me as I live near the Kennet Mouth and walked the canal a few years back.
The route out of Marlborough passes the childhood home of William Golding (29, The Green). The road is left for a footpath north of the river. It was overgrown in places and could probably get quite muddy.
There are steps up and over a disused railway, now a cycle path (Photo 1).
Mildenhall has an early break point at the Horseshoe Inn. The route then crosses over to the south bank of the Kennet.
The walk to Ramsbury is a mixture of footpaths and lanes. There are plenty of vantage points to enjoy the river (Photo 2).
The Slow Way crosses the river into Ramsbury for a break point, with a choice of two pubs. It then returns to the south bank (Photo 3).
From then on, the river is hidden from view; while the route passes fields (Photo 4), the remains of a Roman villa and the grounds of Littlecote House Hotel.
The Slow Way turns south for a footpath, narrow in places, that ascends though woods (Photo 5). It then descends across fields with a good view down into Hungerford.
There is a short stretch of the A4 with a pavement (Photo 6).
A footpath crosses Freeman’s Marsh, an area of wetland (Photo 7), to reach the Kennet & Avon Canal.
Most of the walk into Hungerford follows the canal towpath.

31 Aug 2022This is a lovely Slow Way that's easy to follow - and I even saw some large trout in the River Kennet.
I'm going to come back to share some photos and a longer review... but wanted to get this new route posted so we can get it verified!.
