22 Jul 2025 (edited 11 Aug 2025)A great walk from the urban areas of Macclesfield over the hills to Danebridge. Despite the terrain the paths are in a generally good condition with adequate waymarking and safe path furniture (kissing gates etc). Expansive views over the Cheshire plain and the Peak District. Part of the route also encompasses a section of the long distance Gritstone Trail:(https://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/leisure,_culture_and_tourism/ranger_service/countryside_sites/the_gritstone_trail/gritstone-trail.aspx). There is one section of roadside walking alongside the A54 Buxton Road where particular care is needed, but otherwise the terrain is predominantly through agricultural grassland.
Please note message on the Ship Inn (Danebridge / Wincle end of the route) website, Aug 2025: "The Ship Inn is Temporary Closed until further notice". There are no other comparable refreshment facilities in the vicinity.
