Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

11 Dec 2023I started this walk from Sileby, on a fairly sunny morning after a weekend of rain and a very wet month. Unfortunately I didn't even get as far as the first bridge before being forced to abandon it because of the depth and extent of the flooding. A certain amount of trial and error resulted in me completing an alternative route which is less susceptible to floods, but also much more pavement heavy, and I have submitted that as LOUMAR two.
I have no doubt that in drier conditions this route should be excellent, but the Soar valley floods quite frequently so I think a wet weather alternative will be useful.
Having left the road out of Sileby on the well marked path. the first couple of fields were easy enough, but several of the stiles were surrounded by water, and by the time I was in the field approaching Mountsorrel Lane I couldn't avoid going down to knee deep in the water more than once. The lane itself was under water, and what was beyond it looked even wetter, so at this stage I felt I had no alternative than to retreat and find another route!.

12 Nov 2022 (edited 01 Dec 2022)A great walk between Loughborough and Sileby. We completed this walk in the dark and it was navigable but needed a head torch. In general the route was well marked and the Leicester footpaths team have done a great job of maintaining stiles and waymarking their footpaths. It's quite cross country and good be quite muddy towards the end. There are a number of narrow paths and bridges to negotiate too.

12 Nov 2022I walked this route with Lara and Darren (from Slow Ways) as the sun went down. We started at dusk and finished in the dark.
The moon was bright in the sky and it was great seeing landmarks lit on the horizon. Barrow upon Soar makes a good stop for a drink half(ish) way.
It's a good route that's straight forward to navigate. I've nothing to add on the first review, other than there are a handful of steps and stiles. Also, at the Loughborough end you will see a short cut that takes the corner off a bend in the canal.. if it's very wet you may prefer to stick to the canal. .
Enjoy!.

22 Aug 2022This is a nice walk. Starts along the Loughborough canal, then across fields and briefly through some woods. There are a couple of big roads to cross and we had a herd of cows to contend with but there a quite a few nice pubs along the way. No real outstanding views but a good walk for a day out. It does briefly take you through a farm where there's a 'dogs loose' sign. We saw one dog chained up but it wasn't aggressive.
The route is accurate, there are some stiles and small bridges to cross, I don't think a buggy would manage it but we saw a few children and dogs along the way.
