Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

12 Mar 2023Echoing what the other reviewers have said, the route directs walkers to a nonexistent path at the southern end of Rollesbrook Greenway, and to a locked gate in Vinery Gardens.
In all other respects it's an excellent route, and I've submitted a corrected version as Lorsou Four which hopefully sorts out these issues.

10 Sep 2022I followed this route from Lord's Hill to Southampton. It was an ok route. A lot of roads (with pavement) but that's fine if you're just trying to get from A to B. I chose to follow Lorsou One rather than Two or Three because it compromises on length and doesn't follow an extremely busy road for an hour, which is a plus!
As other reviewers have found, the Vinery Gardens route isn't viable (locked gate in photo), so you can either turn off a bit earlier and go down a steep dip and then up again onto what I think is Oakfield Gardens or continue on the Greenway as I did onto Dale Road.
I also had a problem following the path towards the Southampton end, where the route appears to go through a part of the Rollesbrook Greenway that doesn't have a path. I diverted off at the expected point anyway, just to check, and it seemed to be successful at first but then became overgrown and impassable. I checked on OS and the official Southampton council website and neither showed a path going that way. You have to exit at the playground and take the roads from there.
With corrections, I'd rate this a 3/4, but for now I'm giving it a 2.

14 May 2021At this time I can't really rate this route as it takes you to a gate which is locked as it is private access to an allotment site. The gate is at the end of Vinery Gardens. The idea is to join the Lordsdale Greenway which is great but unfortunately it is not possible via this road. Instead you need to carry on up Winchester Road and take a left down Dale Road. This goes down a dip and just before the roundabout at the bottom the path for the greenway is on the left and this will meet up with where this current route is trying to take you. Apart from that this route is not bad for getting out of a city. With the detour described above I would happily rate this 4 stars.

20 Jun 2021I agree with Cloud Burst. I also came across the locked gate. I regularly use the Greenways and they are definitely 'Slow Ways' suitable. Just you can't get through the gate at the end of Vinery Road.
You could also go through St James Park to make it slightly nicer, rather than next to it. -
