Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

07 Sep 2023I walked this on a very hot day. I thought it was great- vibrant Peckham, and onto a tree lined path and a park. Plenty to keep my interest throughout the walk.

06 Aug 2022As an occasional visitor of London I walked Lonpec with a friend of mine. A very pleasant walk, with ample space for having a side-by-side conversation. What struck me most is how this walk within a few kilometers shows how its population and its public life change. The walk is like an introductory course in urban sociology. To be recommended.

03 Apr 2022I walked this route from Peckham to London Bridge. Once I'd got off the frequently busy and congested Rye Lane, I really enjoyed this walk. It includes the Surrey Canal Walk, which is a favourite walk of mine, leading to Burgess Park (also on the site of a filled in canal). Walking by the lake, I was lucky enough to spot a nesting swan. I zoomed right in to take a photo so no swans were disturbed! Once out of the park there is the Old Kent Road to cross and a large Tesco's to walk around. Once that's out of the way, the route takes you through quiet back streets until you reach bustling but pedestrian friendly Bermondsey and then the station at London Bridge. The entire route is very flat with only the occasional gentle slope. Plenty of shops and other facilities at each end and en route.

20 Aug 2021Starting at London Bridge, this walks take in the vibrant and eclectic Bermondsey St, one of my favourite streets in the city. A wealth of cafés, restaurants and bars to be found, plus some interesting shops and galleries. The walk then passes through some non descript residential areas and housing estates as you approach Old Kent Road, then you cross into Burgess Park. From here on it really takes advantage of the green spaces - first with Burgess Park and a walk round the lake, then with the green route up to Peckham using the Surrey Canal path. There is no canal, but it's a nice green walk to get to Peckham that avoids the roads! Lots of walkers, dogs, runners, cyclists makes it fairly busy. Very slight uphill towards the end but for the most part this route is completely flat, uses cross walks with drop down pavements and avoids the main roads as much as possible.
