Description

This is a modification on the original Llarho route avoiding the private land and non-navigable sections. It is slightly shorter, being a little more direct, but is not entirely wheelchair friendly in some sections. There is another route uploaded that is fully wheelchair and pushchair friendly following a very similar route to this. This route uses the canal path from/into Llangollen for almost half the walk, making it a nice easy walk and there are no steep or rocky sections. Views from the Rhos end towards the Dee Valley are lovely and if you have time you can include a walk over the World Heritage site of the Pontcysyllte aqueduct at the half way point, which is definitely recommended. There are also a couple of excellent pubs along the route if you have time - the Sun Trevor - watch out for the bridge over the canal to it about 2.5 miles out of Llangollen, and also the Telford Inn at the junction of the canal and aqueduct

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I didn't realise this walk was here but it is one of my favourites. Usually I catch the Arriva number 5 bus from Johnstown into Llangollen and then walk it backwards.

The canal path is multimodal so keep an eye out for bikes and it can get a bit muddy in places.
Recommended walk.
