Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

This route was very enjoyable to walk. It looks like it is the most direct route and is certainly a very beautiful route as well.

It does not follow the SW coast path all the way, in fact it starts by taking a different route out of Lizard village through pathways, fields and woodlands. One path was on top of a hedge which I didn't realise at first so went slightly off the route before going back and seeing the stones to climb up to join the very narrow path.

We weaved up and down paths past Portresco and Cadgwith and then joined the SW coast path.

Kennack Sands is a lovely beach about half way along the route and has two cafes which have good lunch, snack and drink options. We got takeaway lunch and an iced coffee and wandered over to the next beach over for a swim which was much quieter. A great place to refill your water bottles!

The next part of the route was along the SW coast path most of the way. This was a very steep, narrow path with loose gravel, steps and stones to hop over. It was a challenge even in the dry weather. The ups and downs were steep and required a moderate level of fitness.

Having said that , if you are looking for an adventure and don't mind heights it has stunning views and getting into Coverack was totally worth it. Coverack has a pub, shop, beach, fish and chips and places to stay. We stayed at Coverack YHA which has camping or room options.

* The Sculpture Park was a lovely stop if you have the time.

I really enjoyed this walk, the different terrain of coast path, fields and track is great. Some of the sections of coast path are challenging and steep
There were a few times where crossing stys were obscured and we had to back track slightly to find the way so look closely. Particularly one where the path was atop a hedge and not the field below. Also, trust the directions that look like they're leading you through a farmyard, it's just a small corner to a gate to cross, there is an obscured public footpath sign.
I have walked some of the coast path from kennack sands onwards in the winter and it can be very muddy and slippy.

Beautiful walk! Starting at Coverack there are good facilities, cafe, toilet, etc and direct bus connection from Truro. The route mainly follows the South West Coast Path. Shortly out of Coverack its worth taking a short diversion to the Terence Coventry Sculpture Park. Some steep sections and past a number of coves, you reach Kennack Sands with cafe and toilets. Next comes Cadgwith with facilities and then finally inland to Lizard which has cafes, toilets and bus connections.

Arguably the best route to take when travelling between these two locations, passing along lovely beaches and coves that make for perfect resting (or swimming) spots. It's only possible by foot; there are a few steep sections to descend/climb and numerous step/stone/squeeze/Cornish along the way.
