Description
A more direct route than the original ‘Leywhe one’ including an increased amount of off-road walking. After leaving the Leyland residential areas over the M6 footbridge, it follows the north edge of Leyland Golf Club, thus avoiding the busy B5248 and Dawson Lane. It joins ‘Bamwhe’ at Cuerden Valley Park for the walk up to Wheelton, although this route uses a shortcut through a second tunnel immediately before the M61 underpass

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

21 Jun 2021A really enjoyable and adventurous route. After exiting Leyland, it follows quiet pleasant trails and there’s some fun exploration from Whittle-le-Woods to Wheelton. It gets challenging in that last third: there’s a steep cobbled path, tricky navigation to find the tunnels under the M61, some rougher terrain, and a final climb over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
