Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

23 Sep 2022This is a lovely walk, it's steep but worth it. Greenwich town centre, Greenwich Park and Blackheath common are all very enjoyable. Other things to see: street art near Lewisham station, Rangers House (location for Bridgerton), a flourishing mining bee colony, and a Henry Moore statue (v slight detour within G Park).
Practical things:
Greenwich Park does get locked at night, times on Royal Parks website, use Crooms Hill instead.
Grassy paths on Blackheath don't get particularly muddy in winter somehow, it's a drainage thing.

17 Sep 2022A nice easy route as long as you don't mind a bit of hill walking. As the other reviews have mentioned there are no footpaths on the Heath section so you need to walk on the grass verges. Coming from Greenwich it looks like there is no easy crossing point for the busy A2 but when you get close you will see a Pelican Crossing to your right. Plenty of greenery on the whole route for central London and obviously no shortage of places to get food and drink at either end plus good transport links.

18 Jun 2022An enjoyable, safe and easy to follow route which uses Lewisham Hill and Greenwich Park. Really nice views, with hill climbing involved. Good access.

18 Apr 2022A straightforward and very green walk between Lewisham and Greenwich. I walked this as part of a circular walk combined with Lewbla and Grebla and it was really nice to see so much of the heath. For most of this stretch across the heath there is no pavement (see photos), only a narrow track or gravel - fine for walking, but might be more challenging for wheels. The path in the park is very steep, so you could use The Avenue (parallel) for a slightly gentler incline.

02 Jan 2022Short but strenuous. Whether you are starting in Lewisham or Greenwich it's uphill for the first half and downhill for the second. The suggested route involves following two roads (Wat Tyler and Cade) that do not have pavements. There are footpaths to the sides of the roads but these might be muddy in wet weather. Oddly this gives the walk quite a rural feel.
