Description
Combines a (modified) first half of LeiDun 2 with the second half of PitDun 1. Unlikely LeiDun 1 and 2, it starts along the Grand Union Canal sooner. Unlike LeiDun 1 it avoids loads of cows. Unlike LeiDun 2 it avoid the road walking section into Northall. And unlike LeiDun 1 and 2, it avoids the long slog along Tring Road

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

26 Aug 2024I walked this in two parts, the first half as part of LeiDun 2, and the second half as part of PitDun 1.
I walked this on a warm and mostly sunny morning from Leighton Buzzard to Dunstable. It had rained in the past 24 hours.
After walking around some residential streets in LB, you soon find yourself along the Grand Union Canal (photo #1, #2), which the route the follows for 3 miles. It's quiet and peaceful, albeit a little monotonous. Then it is across and along a few fields with crops (photo #3), before going around a little recreation ground near Slapton. After going past its church (photo #4), there are a few more fields. After crossing a little bridge, the path disappears for about 200 metres (photo #5), and I had to push through tall grass. On the other side, the path was nice again (photo #6).
After a while you get to a quiet lane (photo #7), followed by walking along a busy road with pavement into Northall (photo #8).
Then you make your way to Eaton Bray along a quiet lane, with little traffic. The town itself has pavements again. After a climb you get onto the fields between here and Church End. Again, some great views (photo #9).
A really nice and wide path (photo #10) (and going up again) gets you over the hill towards Dunstable. Here a cycling path (photo #11) (former railway, I suppose) gets you along some residential roads (photo #12) and across Grove House Mansions to the finish.
A canal, little villages, nice paths, great views. Would definitely recommend!.
