Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

24 Mar 202413 km Leeds to Swillington, mainly along the trans penine way following the River Aire, which is well signed. I walked on a fine Sunday, and the path is well used by cyclists, runners and walkers, a well established leisure route, providing for most part a hard surface to walk on, but there are sections of unpaved path which were muddy in places. Towards the end of the walk you leave the river and head towards Swillington, crossing Swillington bridge and following the road on a short incline. Before the top of the first rise you will see a bridle path off to your right, signed Leeds Country Way, walk along the path for about 500 m and then turn left directly towards Swillington. You will meet the A642 cross with care to follow the path up the hill to Swillington centre.

25 Mar 2022A very enjoyable walk mostly away from roads.
Generally on compacted track with one fast road to cross between Swillington and Woodlesford. Very peaceful along the side of the river and canal with a long, steep set of steps in the middle near Thwaite Mill.

07 Jan 2022Mostly off-road route. Some time on fairly busy road in Swillington until reached canal at Woodlesford.
Along towpath mostly newly surfaced route.
One bridge obstacle requiring ascent/descent up flight of steps. Rendering route complete route unsuitable for wheelchairs or non-traditional bicycles.
